When the Hilton Chicago hotel hosts Marijuana BusinessDaily’s Marijuana Business Conference and Expo, and the event is keynoted by a best-selling economist, it seems cannabis-entrepreneurs are gaining acceptance. Indeed, marijuana-focused trade shows are growing alongside the marijuana legalization trend. George Jage, President / Publisher of Marijuana Business Media, says the three main types of industry events are business events, consumer/patient events, and investor events. All three face challenges “due to the state by state regulations that are in conflict with federal law,” he said.
Despite the challenges, the number of events is growing. The National Cannabis Industry Association (NCIA) based in Denver Colorado organizes trade shows and lobbies lawmakers for the legal cannabis industry. Last year they organized thirty-five events including symposia, lobbying days, networking receptions and educational events, according to Aaron Smith, Executive Director of the NCIA. The group includes 850 member companies who pay at least $1000 per year to belong to and support the organization.
